Fragile X Syndrome? |
Fragile X syndrome is now recognized as the leading hereditary cause of developmental and learning disabilities. Approximately 1/250 individuals in the general population are believed to carry the gene for the condition and 1/2000 are affected.
Males are usually more severely affected than females.
Individuals with Fragile X syndrome may be affected with a variety of developmental problems, including learning disabilities, mild to severe mental retardation, behavior management challenges, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, sensory and perceptual problems, autism and autistic behaviors.
Fragile X syndrome has a wide spectrum of characteristics, which may or may not be seen in a given individual. Abnormal physical features, cognitive delays, speech and language problems, motor and sensory problems and behavioral dysfunctions may be present.

| The goal of our association is to promote the syndrome knowledge to children, adolescents, and adults with x-fragile syndrome, and their families and, of course, help in treatment, clinical aspect, both from people informations and expertise and genetic counseling. | |
